The Montgomery County Council recently approved funding to construct the first phase of improvements to the Town's storm drain system. Phase1 improvements include repairs to the East/Stanford intersection, the Thornapple/Oakridge area, and the Chatham/Aspen intersection, which were identified as having the worst drainage problems in the County's analysis of the storm drain system in Town. The County Council also approved funding for the design of improvements to the remainder of Town storm drains. Future phased improvements will be submitted as capital project funding requests in subsequent years.
Work on Phase 1 improvements should begin as early as August and should be completed by November or December, weather permitting. In most areas, the County will maintain vehicular access to residents' homes, but, where the storm drain pipe is to be placed very deep, full street closures will be required and access to homes will be limited to foot traffic. County work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Like construction anywhere else, there will be inconveniences. The County and Town will work diligently to minimize such inconveniences and ask for the patience and understanding of Town residents.
